Down I Go
04:40
|
|||
He's got the whole world in his hands
I must have slipped through his fingers like a grain of sand
Can you fall from grace if you were never there?
I did everything I thought that a man could do
It's hard to hold your life together using Elmer's glue
and when duct tape fails, it's not "if" but where
you'll fall apart
Down I go
Nice and slow
Say it ain't so
Down I go
Forever came crashing like a porno train wreck
You said you'd call me back in just a sec
but five years later my hand's cramped from holding the phone
Red and yellow came and went and it got cold
Ice storm insulated world of home
Walking an endless road to being alone
again
Down I go
Nice and slow
Say it ain't so
Down I go
I guess that Hell was full and now I'm stuck back here
Gutted like an unsuspecting headshot deer
Petition all I could want - the sky's falling down
Bought a ticket with my soul and here I stand
Looking between the shoulders of the other fans
In the nosebleed section of life, all you can see is the crowd
Down I go
Nice and slow
Say it ain't so
Down I go

There Will Come A Day
04:03
|
|||
History repeats itself
but the price keeps going up
It's taking more and more to fill my cup
When the good times roll on through
I hope they roll right over you
I've seen your American heart beating red, white, black and blue
And there will come a day....
History repeats itself
Not much is adding up
Is it too much to ask for decency?
I've seen you losing and giving up
Let me pour and fill your cup;
I've got more blessings here than I need
'Cause there will come a day....
History repeats itself
Your luck is drying up
but you can borrow mine if you need to
I keep it in a Tic-Tac box
with my ego and a pair of socks
in case I need to walk in your shoes
'Cause there will come a day....

One of Those Years
04:28
|
|||
Did you wake up one day and see
being all grown up ain't what you thought it would be
It's been a long time coming for a short-timer up to his knees
Take a good look at where you are
Does it feel like you road in on a river of tears?
You thought it was a day
and then maybe just a week;
Man, I hate to break it to you but
I think it's just one of those....
(Give 'em all you got and they just show you the door
so you take what you can get til you can't take no more)
They say
you don't know what you're doing
No way
and you just keep on stewing
You'll bust a gasket, blow a fuse, or just go postal
staying up all night listening to coast-to-coastal AM
Take a good look at where you are
Does it feel like you road in on the highway of fear?
You thought it was a day
and then maybe just a week;
Man, I hate to break it to you but
I think it's just one of those years

Hell (If I Know)
05:57
|
|||
I wanted to say
you don't have to leave
but it's the fifth time this week
Day three
It shouldn't be this hard
but that's how it seems to be
What has become of you and me?
How can you stand
to lay here in this bed
with all of the pain
you've put in my head
Maybe it's me
Maybe it's you
Hell if I know what to do
"Baby, come back"
Is that what you want to hear?
Another few days
we'll be right back here
in this bitter damn hole
that we dug for ourselves
The seeds that we sowed;
our own sprouting Hell
